An Artifical Image of the Outer Part of Saturn's A Ring
Shown in False Colour
The image was generated from the Voyager PPS occultation data. It was used
in image compression studies for the Cassini Imaging Science Subsystem
cameras. The prominent gap running from bottom left to top right is the
325-km wide Encke Gap. The narrower gap near the edge of the A ring is the
30-km wide Keeler Gap. Note the detailed radial structure in the ring.
This is caused by resonances with small satellites orbiting just beyond the
rings. The F ring is just visible in the bottom right-hand corner.
